Frenchman Michel Mothmora wrote
another great chapter to his
fairytale career, when he beat
John Anderson Carvalho from
Brazil on Friday night, May 6,
to win the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) World
Middleweight title in Cayenne,
French Guiana.
In front of almost 5000
enthusiastic spectators at the
Palais Omnisports, Motmora
wisely used his superior
technique to out-box Carvalho,
who came to fight and tried to
be the aggressor but was often
outsmarted and out-worked by
Mothmora in the exchanges.
While the action was not exactly
one-way traffic, and Carvalho
did have his good moments,
Mothmora looked comfortable most
of the time and appeared to be
in control of the fight all the
way. So it was no surprise,
after twelve entertaining
rounds, that he was declared the
new WBF World Middleweight
Champion by unanimous decision.
Judges Nelson
Pereira
of Brazil, Sergio Sotelo of
Mexico and Jean-Marcel Nartz of
Germany all scored the fight
117-111 for Mothmora, who was
very emotional after fulfilling
a lifelong dream that once
seemed impossible. Referee in
charge of the action was
Bertrand Chagnoux from France.
In May 2011 Michel Mothmora had
a professional record of 15-21!
He went on to win WBF
International and
Intercontinental titles, and now
the WBF World title, improving
his professional statistics to
29-24 (10) in the process. John
Anderson Carvalho falls to
24-6-2 (14).
With former World Cruiserweight
Champion Jean Marc Mormeck as a
special guest in attendance, the
Michel Mothmora vs. John
Anderson Carvalho World Boxing
Federation (WBF) World
Middleweight title fight,
preceded by a full undercard,
was promoted by Jacques Chinon
and Guyane Ring.
