Reigning European Light
Flyweight champion Laetitia
Arzalier from France will
attempt to accomplish an amazing
feat, when she moves down in
weight to fight Brazilian Aline
de Cassia Scaranello for the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Womens World Strawweight
title on Saturday May 21.
Most commonly
boxers move up in weight to add
more titles to their resume, but
after capturing the French
Flyweight crown in 2013, by
defeating former WBF World
Champion Amira Hamzaoui, and
winning the European Light
Flyweight title last year,
Arzalier is going about things
another way.
With a fine 10-1 (3) record, the
32-year-old will have an
advantage in fighting at the
Halle Des Sports Louis Marty in
her hometown of Balaruc les
Bains, but she can expect a
tough encounter against the
former world title-challenger
from Brazil.
Nicknamed “La Poderosa” (The
Powerful), Aline de Cassia
Scaranello brings a 9-3
professional record to the
fight, and has stopped seven
opponents inside the distance.
Making her debut in January
2014, she won the Brazilian
national Super Bantamweight
title only six months later.
In her most recent outing, last
November, Scaranello (27) lost a
decision to 20-0 Debora Anahi
Dionicius in a challenge for the
Argentinians IBF World Super
Flyweight title, so she too will
be moving down in weight for
what will be her second major
world championship opportunity.
Promoted by Frederic Perez, the
Arzalier vs. de Cassia
Scaranello WBF Womens World
Strawweight title bout will
headline a big night of combat
sports featuring additional
professional boxing match-ups,
but also amateur boxing and K1
fights.
