The World Boxing Federation
(WBF) continues its
ever-increasing presence on the
African continent in the coming
weeks, as multiple WBF title
fights are scheduled. South
Africa, Tanzania and Uganda are
already in the record books for
this year, and Egypt, Namibia
and Gabon will soon the added to
the list.
On Friday May 27 in Klerksdorp,
Gauteng, South Africa, on a show
promoted by TK Promotions at the
Harry Oppenheimer Sports Center,
former WBF International
Champion Frans Ramabola (6-1, 2
KOs) will square off with Chris
Mugisho (5-1-1, 1 KO)
from D.R.C.
with the vacant WBF All
Africa Super Welterweight title
at stake.
Two days later, on Sunday May
29, in Port Elizabeth, South
Africa, Nelson Mandela Metro
Promoters Association will
present a championship
double-header at the Uitenhage
Sports Center, featuring a WBF
International and a WBF All
Africa title fight.
Former national title-challenger
Mzoxolo Ndwayana (14-2-2, 9 KOs)
is matched with Anelisa Gunqisa
(8-4-1, 7 KOs) to decide the
vacant WBF International
Welterweight championship, and
undefeated prospect Mfundo
Mbengashe (4-0, 2 KOs) is in
tough against Xola Sifama
(13-8-2, 8 KOs) for the vacant
All-Africa Flyweight crown.
On Saturday June 4 at the Palm
Hills Club in Giza, Egypt,
compatriots Andre Valavanis
(4-2, 3 KOs) and Shady Mamdou
are set to do battle for the
vacant WBF All Africa
Welterweight title on a big show
promoted by Richard Nwoba and
Louaa Boxing Promotions.
Three weeks later the vacant WBF
World Welterweight crown will be
contested in Walvis Bay,
Namibia, as local contender
Bethuel Ushona (34-4-1, 9 KOs)
faces 21-year-old German Deniz
Ilbay (15-1, 8 KOs), promoted by
Salute Boxing Promotions.
Rounding out the current African
line-up, Luxembourg-based
Gabonese Cruiserweight Taylor
Mabika (14-2-1, 8 KOs) will
return to his city of birth,
Libreville in Gabon, to try to
win the vacant WBF International
title against an opponent yet to
be decided on July 16. Innocent
Tchuente promotes.
