Undefeated Egyptian Andre “King
Cheetah” Valavanis is the new
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
All Africa Welterweight
Champion, after he out-classed
and stopped fellow countryman
Shady Mamdou to win the vacant
title on Saturday, June 4, at
the Palm Hills Club in Giza.
Headlining a show promoted by
Louaa Boxing Promotions and
Richard Nwoba, both fighters
started the fight aggressively,
throwing plenty of power-punches
to head and body, but Valavanis
quickly proved the sharper and
more skilled boxer and took
control of the fight.
After winning the first two
rounds quite clearly, Valavanis
upped the pace further in round
three and soon connected with
hard shots to floor Mamdou.
Visibly hurt, Mamdou was rightly
rescued from further punishment
by referee Heshem Pasha.
The new WBF All Africa
Welterweight Champion improved
his professional ledger to 5-0
(4) and appears to be facing a
bright future in the ring, while
the brave but out-gunned Mamdou,
a former two-time Egyptian
national title-challenger, falls
to 4-3 (3).
The card, which also featured
two Egyptian national title
fights, was attended by a near
sell-out crowd of more than 400
fans in the intimate venue,
including the son of former
Egyptian president Hosni
Mubarak, who enjoyed the show
with his family.
