While the III. World Boxing
Federation (WBF) World
Convention in Slovenia kept
people busy enough, there was
still WBF championship action
going on over the weekend, not
only in Slovenia at the huge WBF
Championship Boxing Night on
Saturday (September 24), but
also in South Africa and Poland.
On Friday, September 23, in
Umtata, South Africa, former
amateur stand-out Ayanda Dulani
won the vacant WBF All Africa
Strawweight title in only his
fourth paid outing, when he
stopped fellow countryman Ndikho
Magadaza in the twelfth and
final round.
Dropped several times during the
fight, and trailing hopelessly
on the cards, Magadaza showed
great heart and kept fighting
his chance, but eventually
succumbed to a vicious
body-shot. Referee Lulama Mtya
waved it off at 1:39 of the
final stanza.
Dulani is now 3-0-1 (1) since
turning pro in August of 2015,
and looks like a future star of
the Strawweight division. “Mini
Cooper” Magadaza, a professional
since 2010 and a former WBF
International title-challenger,
sees his record dip to 6-8 (2).
At the convention in Maribor, on
Saturday night, Georgia´s former
WBF world title-challenger
Mikheil Avakyan dethroned WBF
International Light Welterweight
titlist Jean Moraiti from
France, scoring a close but
unanimous decision after ten
rounds.
Judges Per Hansen, Arno Pokrandt
and Darryl Ribbink scored the
fight 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94
respectively for Avakyan, who
improved his record to 37-26-4
(20). Moraiti, making his first
title-defense, drops to 12-10-4
(0). Referee was Eddie Marshall.
Also, Attila Koros sprung a bit
of an upset when he beat
Hungarian compatriot Ferenc
Hafner by unanimous decision to
lift the vacant WBF
Intercontinental Middleweight
title. Koros, who improved to
12-5-1 (9), was knocked down
once, but managed to floor
Hafner, 26-11 (15), twice.
Daniel Lopez Rivera scored the
bout relatively close at
114-111, but Eddie Marshal and
Brahim Ait Aadi had it wider
with 117-110 and 115-109
tallies. Referee in charge of
the action was Alexander
Plumanns.
Undefeated Libyan prospect Malik
Zinad captured the vacant WBF
International Light Heavyweight
title, when he stopped Hungarian
Attila Palko in round six.
Malta-based Zinad scored several
knock-downs and took his
professional ledger to 6-0 (5),
while Palko falls to 23-26 (15).
Time of stoppage was 2:55.
Finally, South African Super
Featherweight David Rajuili,
8-5-1 (2), is the new WBF
International champion at his
weight, after he won a lopsided
unanimous decision over
experienced and game, but
out-skilled, Georgian Giorgi
Gachechiladze, 21-24-1 (14).
After ten rounds of action,
judges Gerhard Sigl and Philippe
Wouters both had Rajuili winning
by 98-92, and judge Robin Reid,
the former WBF, WBC & IBO World
Super Middleweight Champion,
scored it 99-92. Referee was
Christophe Hembert.
Also on Saturday night, at the
Hala Szkoly Podstawowej in
Bialystok, Poland, local man
Robert “Shy” Swierzbinski laid
claim to the vacant WBF
International Middleweight title
when he beat Timo Laine from
Finland by wide and convincing
unanimous decision.
Scores were 99-91 from Zbigniew
Lagosz and Wlodzimierz Kromka,
while Pawel Kardyni had it
slightly closer at 98-92. Lagosz
also refereed.
Swierzbinski is now 17-6-1 (3),
and Laine goes to 15-8 (4).
Promoter of the show, televised
by TVP Sport, was Darek Snarsky
and his Boxing Production.
