The Dr. Molemela Indoor Stadium
in Bloemfontein, South Africa
will set the scene when promoter
Lebo Mahoko presents MACUFE
Boxing Night on Friday October
7, featuring two intriguing
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
championship fights.
After a tough start to his
career where he lost several
fights, 24-year-old Rofhiwa “War
Child” Maemu has developed into
a highly touted prospect and is
pitted against Tello “King
Razor” Dithebe, with the vacant
WBF Intercontinental
Featherweight title on the line.
|
With six convincing victories in
a row, five by stoppage, against
very stern opposition, Maemu is
much better than his 10-5-2 (7)
record suggests. In his most
recent outing he traveled to
Namibia to fight former IBF
International and Namibian
champion Gottlieb Ndokosho,
demolishing the local hero in
three rounds.
Now he is primed and ready for
his first shot at a significant
professional title, but in Tello
Dithebe, 14-5 (6), he will be in
with another strong adversary
who is coming to win. The pair
has exchanged harsh words in
local media, and the encounter
is shaping up to be an intense
battle of wills.
In the co-featured attraction,
WBF Intercontinental Super
Welterweight Champion Nkululeko
“The Bulldog” Mhlongo, 14-3
(11), will make his second
title-defense in a highly
anticipated rematch with
reigning WBF All Africa titlist
Frans Ramabola, 7-1 (2).
|
|
Mhlongo retained his title by
stopping a game and determined
Ramabola in round ten of a hotly
contested encounter last February,
but the challenger is insisting much
has changed and that the outcome
will be different this time around,
saying:
“Mhlongo
is looking past me, probably because
of the result of the first fight,
but he will regret it. Lightning
never strikes twice in the same
place, and the first fight is
history. I gave him too much respect
then, but that will not happen
again.”
The World Boxing Federation (WBF)
Championship double-header is staged
as part of the annual Mangaung
African Cultural Festival (MACUFE),
an internationally acclaimed event
currently taking place in
Bloemfontein between September 30
and October 9.
