On Saturday October 8 at the
Civic Centre in Feilding, New
Zealand, local pride and the
vacant World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Oceania Cruiserweight
title will be at stake when
fellow Kiwis Lance Bryant and
Tom Heads collide over ten
rounds.
“Busta”
Bryant, bringing an 8-3 (2)
record, must be considered a
healthy favorite as he has
defeated Heads twice previously.
But Heads is known as a very
tough costumer, despite his less
than impressive but somewhat
deceiving 2-5 (1) ledger, and
expectations are high for an
all-action shoot-out.
In his most recent outing, this
past June, Lance Bryant won the
New Zealand national
championship as well as the IBO
Asia Pacific title when he
recorded a unanimous decision
over rugged former national
titlist James “Batman” Langton.
Nicknamed “The Bluff Brawler”,
Heads has only lost to very
capable opponents, and only
Australian champion Kane Watts,
15-2 at the time, has managed to
stop him inside the distance. At
31 years of age he is no spring
chicken, but still four years
younger than Bryant and full of
ambition.
The Lance Bryant vs. Tom Heads
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
Oceania Cruiserweight title
fight will headline a show
billed as “Feilding Fight Fest”.
The card will include undercard
match-ups featuring local
talent, and will be promoted by
Michael Meehan.
