Frenchman Christopher Sebire has been in some tough fights against some very tough opponents. He has had tough luck, and his share of success, but on Saturday October 22 he is looking for his crowning moment after more than twelve years of paying his dues.

In the glorious setting that is the Cirque Jules Verne, a historic venue in Amiens, France built in 1889, “Christo” Sebire (31) fights Argentina’s Martin Antonio Coggi for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Light Welterweight title.

Sebire, 24-9-1 (9), turned pro in February 2004, and worked his way towards winning the French national title in 2009 with a unanimous decision over Rachid Drilzane.

He retained the title twice against good challengers, Loic Foure and Abdoulaye Soukouna, before coming up short by majority decision in a rematch with the latter.

Never one to be given an easy ride, Sebire lost decisions on foreign soil to undefeated quality operators Chris Jenkins and Bradley Skeete in WBC and WBA title fights in 2014.

And many would claim he was done wrong when Samuele Esposito was awarded a close decision in Italy that same year, with an IBF championship on the line.

In his most recent outing, last October, Sebire convincingly beat extremely tough Latvian gate-keeper Ivans Levickis, and since then he has been gearing up for his big opportunity against Coggi. The fight was originally scheduled for some months ago, but postponed, so it has been a long time coming for both boxers.

As is the case for Sebire, this will be the first chance for Martin Antonio Coggi to capture a world title. Son of Argentinean icon, and former World Light Welterweight Champion, Juan Martin Coggi, the 33-year-old from Buenos Aires has some big shoes to fill.

A Southpaw like his father, who is now his trainer, “El Principito” Coggi made his paid debut in June 2005, and has since compiled a nice-looking 33-6-3 (16) ledger, winning the South American title and various other regional accolades along the way.

The Christopher Sebire vs. Martin Antonio Coggi WBF World Light Welterweight title fight will headline a show promoted by Jerome Fouache and L´Amiénois Boxing Club.
