During its III. World Convention
in Maribor, Slovenia this past
September, The World Boxing
Federation (WBF) announced the
establishing of the WBF Advisory
Board.
The board, which will advice on
various matters based on own
experiences in the sport,
includes former world champions
Robin Reid, Donny Lalonde,
Francois Botha and Jan Zaveck,
as well as former European
champion, and Olympic Gold
medalist, Audley Harrison.
Now these big personalities are
joined by Argentinean icon Juan
Martin Coggi, a true ring
legend, who has seen it all and
done it all in the squared
circle.
Coggi, who last month went to
France with his son Martin
Antonio Coggi as trainer for
juniors failed attempt to win
the WBF World Light Welterweight
crown against Christopher
Sebire, compiled a 75-5-2 (44)
record in his own career.
He is a three-time WBA World
Light Welterweight Champion, and
made ten successful defenses of
that title in his three reigns
between 1987 and 1996.
Born in December of 1961, he
fought professionally for
seventeen years (1982-1999), and
his wealth of experience and
knowledge is sure to benefit the
WBF in many ways.
Said Mr. Coggi: "It was a true
pleasure dealing with the WBF in
connection to my sons world
title fight in France. And
experiencing first hand what a
genuine and professional
organization it is, made we jump
on the opportunity to contribute
as a member of the WBF Advisory
Board."
"With the way they run things, I
am sure the WBF has a bright
future, and I am very pleased to
now be a part of it."
WBF President Howard Goldberg
added: “What can I say, it is a
true honor to have Mr. Coggi
join us, and along with Reid,
Botha, Lalonde, Zaveck and
Harrison it is really some
Advisory Board we have been able
to put together. How can you not
listen very carefully to what
these guys have to say?”
