Da Costa, 21-2 (9), from the
Champagne-producing city of
Reims, first became world
champion in 2012 when she
captured the WBF Strawweight
crown, but lost the title two
years later by split decision to
Mexican Susana Cruz Perez.
She then moved up in weight, and
won the Light Flyweight title
last November, knocking out
Rungnapa Keawkrachang from
Thailand in five rounds.
In her most recent outing, this
past May, she successfully
defended against tough Uruguayan
challenger Soledad Macedo,
scoring a clear unanimous
decision.
Now Da Costa (34) is hoping to
finish the year with another
impressive performance against
Yazidu, who at twenty-five is
nine years her junior and brings
a different style than she has
ever faced before.
