Before entering the ring against
undefeated challenger Diafana
Salazar, it was considered a
strong possibility that World
Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens
World Lightweight Champion
Nicole Wesner could be in for a
tough night in her second
title-defense on Sunday,
December 4, in Hamburg.
Not a lot was known beforehand
about the Dominican, but it was
clear to everyone that she
arrived in Germany hungry to
become world champion. And with
eight out of her nine victories
coming inside the distance, it
was probably not a good idea to
let her test your chin.
But, after a quiet first round
where both boxers appeared to be
feeling each other out, Wesner
put an exclamation point on her
class in round two. Towards the
end of the round, Wesner landed
with a massive right hand which
clearly shook Salazar to the
core.
Wesner immediately sensed that
she had her opponent in real
trouble, and followed up with
two more precise and hard rights
that made Salazar turn away in
utter distress. Seeing how badly
hurt Salazar was, referee Frank
Michael Mass stepped in and
waved the fight off. Time of
stoppage was 1:59.
Nicole Wesner improved her
undefeated professional record
to 12-0 (6), and Diafane
Salazar, who is trained by
former Featherweight WBO world
title-challenger Freddy “Italo”
Cruz, drops to 9-1 (8). The
fight was promoted by Boxen im
Norden in association with
Nicole Wesner.
