The World Boxing Federation
(WBF) is back in South Korea on
Sunday December 10, when former
two-time World Champion Hee-Jung
Yuh fights Li Ping Shi from
China for the vacant WBF
Intercontinental Super Flyweight
title in Seoul.
Yuh, 18-3 (9), won the IFBA
World Super Flyweight title in
2012 and made one defence before
moving up in weight to win the
WIBF World Bantamweight crown in
2014. In October of 2015 she
failed to add the WBO World
Bantamweight title, losing a
decision to Naoko Fukioka in
Japan.
Since coming up short against
Fujioka, Yuh has moved back down
to Super Flyweight and won three
straight fights. If she can
defeat Shi and become
Intercontinental champion, she
could be in prime position to
fight for the vacant WBF World
title in 2018.
Li Ping Shi, nicknamed “Little
Rock”, is 7-1-1 (3) since
entering the paid code in 2015.
An accomplished amateur, this
will be her first outing outside
China, and her first title
fight, but she is well aware
that she has been given a major
opportunity to make a
break-through.
Only nineteen years old, Shi is
only half the age of Yuh (38).
Will she be too fresh for the
seasoned South Korean, or will
Yuh simple have too much
experience to let the young
prospect get in her way? The
proof will be in the pudding on
December 10.
