19-year-old up-and-comer Ricardo
“El Nino” Sandoval was
impressive in winning the vacant
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
Mexican Flyweight title on
Saturday, February 10, at the
Independencia Gimnasium in
Tijuana.
Sandoval, a pro since June of
2016 and fighting out of the
Riverside Boxing Academy in
California, USA, stopped late
replacement Irving Fierro, who
was overwhelmed and retired on
his stool at the beginning of
the third round.
Before that Sandoval had kept
the pressure on his opponent
from the start, and, while
Fierro appeared focused and
motivated as he tried to
counter-punch in the first
round, landed many hard shots to
body and head.
After two rounds of punishment
from the faster and sharper
Sandoval, Fierro had had enough,
and refused to continue.
Consequently, Referee Manuel
Rincon officially waved the
fight off at 10 seconds of the
third round.
The new World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Mexican Flyweight Champion
improved his professional record
to 11-1 (8), while Fierro drops
to 7-2 (4). The fight was
promoted by Fabrica De
Campeones.
