Reigning World Boxing Federation
(WBF) Womens Intercontinental
Light Welterweight Champion
Oshin Derieuw, 7-0 (4), is set
to continue a meteoric rise
towards the top, when she fights
for the vacant WBF World title
on April 14 in her home-town
Henin-Beaumont, France.
If successful, she will have won
the WBF International,
Intercontinental, and captured
the world title, within the last
year, and she only made her
professional debut two years
ago. Turning 31 a few weeks
after her upcoming fight, she is
not wasting any time.
Her opponent will be Lina
Tejada, 11-4 (9), a twenty-five
year old from Santo Domingo in
the Dominican Republic. After
almost seven years as a
prize-fighter, this will be
Tejada´s second shot at a world
championship.
Last January Tejada lost on
points to Alicia Melina Kummer
in Germany, with no less than
four world titles on the line.
She is reportedly hell-bent on
making sure she makes the most
of her second chance at becoming
a world champion.
Derieuw has proved in the past
that she is a very gifted boxer,
and Tejada will likely have an
advantage in punching-power with
nine of eleven victories coming
inside the distance. So it will
be interesting to see if
technique or power prevails on
April 14.
