This past year, 2010, will do
down in the history of the World
Boxing Federation as the year in
which the reconstructed WBF
firmly regained its global
status.
Not just that a solid leadership
under the guidance of President
Howard Goldberg (South Africa)
and his Executive Director Olaf
Schroeder (Germany) was
established again and a hugely
successful World Convention with
delegates from all over the
world was held in Tirana,
Albania thanks to WBF Honory
President Ylli Ndroqi.
Also, the international presence
of the WBF reflected the signs
of a truely global organization
with WBF championship bouts
taking place in 2010 in no less
than 14 different countries the
world over.
Namely, in alphabetical order,
there were ring battles for WBF
titles of various distinctions
in Albania, Austria, Brazil,
Czechia, France, Germany,
Ireland, Mexico, Poland, Russia,
Slovenia, South Africa, South
Korea and the USA.
The final year-end numbers show
that 35 WBF championship
contests took place worldwide,
with 19 of them being for (both
male and female) world titles.
In his New Year’s message,
President Goldberg wished to
thank each and every member of
the World Boxing Federation for
their efforts and commitment,
and added that “this is only the
start and the bar will be raised
even higher in 2011!”. |
