** Info about Albanian National
Anthem (source: Wikipedia):
Himni i Flamurit (in
English: Hymn to the
Flag) is the
national anthem of
Albania. The words
were written by the
Albanian poet
Asdreni (Aleksander
Stavre Drenova). The hymn was
first published as a poem in
Freedom of Albania, an
Albanian newspaper in
Sofia,
Bulgaria on April 21,
1912. It was later printed in a
volume of poems by Drenova
titled Dreams and Tears, which
was published in
Bucharest. The music
of the anthem was composed by
the
Romanian composer
Ciprian Porumbescu.
Around our flag we are united,
With one will and one desire,
A sacred oath are now
proclaiming
For our salvation to aspire.
May only those avoid the
struggle,
Those who are traitors to our
laws,
Undaunted is a hero through and
through,
He dies a martyr to the cause.
(English translation by Arta
Gharib Parsa and Brent Low)
*** Info about
Krujė
(source: Wikipedia):
Krujė is best known as the
hometown of Albania's national
hero,
Skanderbeg, from
where the Ottomans were
successfully resisted for nearly
35 years from 1443 until 1478.
The castle of Krujė was
successfully defended in four
sieges conducted by
Ottoman forces before
final capitulation shortly after
the death of Albania's greatest
national hero Gjergj Kastrioti
(Skanderbeg). The city's name
comes from the Albanian word for
spring, krua.
Krujė is a tourist attraction
alongside a panoramic
mountainside location. Some of
the main points of interest
include the restored
castle and
citadel, the
Skanderbeg Museum
located inside the castle, and
the old restored
bazaar. The citadel
includes a restored house from
the Ottoman epoch that serves as
the Ethnographic Museum.
