In a clash of South
African-based Angolans, World
Boxing Federation (WBF) All
Africa Welterweight Champion
Antonio Mayala will defend his
crown against Henriques Lando on
November 27 at the Vibrant
Sports Studio in Cape Town.
For Mayala, 12-3-1 (6), it will
be his third defense of the
title he won stopping South
African Jarred Silverman in
June, 2017, and has retained
against Congolese Benoit
Makangila Vela a year later, and
most recently South African Onke
Duko in August of 2019.
Lando, 7-1 (6), twelve years the
younger man at twenty-eight, is
entering his first professional
championship fight, but has
mixed in good competition. His
sole defeat came at the hands of
undefeated former WBF
Intercontinental Champion, and
current WBO Africa titlist,
Emmany Kalombo last year.
When Mayala defeated Silverman
in 2017 he became the first and
so far only Angolan to win a WBF
title, and, besides the
inevitable pride of beating a
fellow countryman which will be
at stake, it will be a
motivating factor for him to
keep that distinction come
November 27.
Antonio Mayala vs. Henriques
Lando will be one of two
featured bouts on a championship
double-header promoted by Jackie
Brice and his Brice Boxing
Promotions.
