Two Zimbabwean hopefuls were crowned
World Boxing Federation (WBF)
champions on Saturday night, August
6, headlining a show in the city of
Chivhu.
At Lightweight, Evans Husayihwevhu
won the vacant WBF International
title, scoring a wide unanimous
decision over Yohani Banda from
Malawi, after a fight much more
competitive than the scores
suggests.
Scoring a knock-down in round eight,
Husayihwevhu won by 116-111 (Judge
Francis Nhenderere), 117-108 (Judge
Ian Sada) and 120-107 (Judge
Terrence Mandaza).
27-year-old Husayihwevhu improved
his professional record to 12-1 (6).
Banda (32) drops to 9-9 (3).
Local Super Bantamweight Tatenda
Biningu seized the vacant WBF All
Africa Super Bantamweight title,
blowing out Malawi-veteran Robert
Kachisa in the first round. Official
time of stoppage: 2:44.
Biningu goes to 9-1 (5), while
Kachisa falls to 9-16-1 (1).
