One of the best Pound-For-Pound
female boxers in the world, Claressa
Shields, will make her first defense
of the World Boxing Federation (WBF)
World Middleweight title on
September 10 in London, England
against reigning WBO titlist
Savannah Marshall.
Shields, 12-0 (2), and Marshall,
12-0 (10), are arch enemies, as “The
Silent Assassin” from Hartlepool is
the only boxer ever to defeat the
two-time Olympic gold-medalist,
amateur or pro. Marshall won a 14-8
decision when they fought in the
2012 world championships.
The 27-year-old American, who also
holds the WBA, WBC and IBF world
titles, won the WBF title last
February when she dethroned Ema
Kozin in Cardiff, Wales. The fight
against Marshall had been in talks
long before that, and now it is
finally going to happen.
Marshall (31) won the WBO world
title in October of 2020, and is
making her fourth defense in the
unification clash with Shields,
which has been labeled “The most
anticipated women's fight of all
time” and is truly a genuine “Super
Fight”.
The Shields vs. Marshall WBF, WBA,
WBC, IBF and WBO World Middleweight
title fight headlines an all-female
card at the O2 Arena, promoted by
Boxxer in association with Salita
Promotions and Top Rank. Sky Sports
will televise in the United Kingdom,
and ESPN+ will broadcast in the USA.
