Frenchman Melvin Moreau scored a
significant upset to become World
Boxing Federation (WBF)
Intercontinental Welterweight
champion on Saturday night, December
17, in Belgium.
At the Hall Omnisports Robert
Collignon in Amay, Liege, Moreau
stopped undefeated local star
Quentin Gomes in nine rounds, to
register by far the biggest win of
his career.
23-year-old Gomes had won IBF Youth
world and Belgian national titles
earlier this year, and was
considered a big favorite to also
take the vacant WBF title against
Moreau, who obviously had other
plans.
Moreau (29) improved his
professional record to 11-5-1 (4),
scoring his fourth straight victory.
Gomes, who obviously is young enough
to come back strong, drops to 15-1
(5).
The fight headlined a show promoted
by Amay Boxing Club.
