In the main event of the World
Boxing Federation (WBF) World
Convention Boxing Galla in Cape
Town, South Africa,
on Friday night,
March 24, local star Wassim
Chellan won the WBF All Africa
Welterweight title, dethroning
reigning champion and fellow
countryman Lybon Ntshani.
In what was nothing short of a
thriller at the packed Sunningdale
Sports Complex, the fight was non
stop action from first to last bell
with both fighters throwing every
punch with the intend to knock the
other man out.
Chellan was the sharper boxer, and
his incredible work-rate won the
majority of the rounds and in the
end a deserved unanimous decision by
scores of 97-93 (Judge Bernd
Hupfer), 97-93 (Judge Bulcsu Gabris)
and 98-92 (Judge Patrick Mkondiwa).
The new WBF champion remains
undefeated at 7-0 (3), and looks
like someone to look out for in the
future. Ntshani drops to a very
deceiving 4-3-1 (4).
The certain candidate for WBF Fight
of the Year was a fitting climax to
what has been a fantastic WBF
Convention, with delegates from all
over the world at ringside and
officiating the fights on a great
card promoted by Jackie Brice Boxing
Promotions.
