The World Boxing Federation (WBF)
staged its 5th world Convention in
Cape Town South Africa from 22-26
March this year.
It
proved to be a huge success enjoyed
by one and all. Together with the
boxers and trainers almost 100
delegates were involved in the
Convention.
Delegates from Hungary, Germany,
England, Morocco, Kuwait, Iran,
Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola, DRC,
Namibia were in attendance.
Videos from Claressa Shields and top
promoter Dennis Hobson were played
at the opening to express their
apology in not being able to attend
although both committed to coming to
Africa later in the year.
The seminars were nothing short of
brilliant and spectacular.
WBF President Howard Goldberg
delivered a testing seminar for the
referees and judges where many of
the delegates said that they learnt
more in 2 hours than they had in 10
years with BSA.
Other seminars included a cornerman
seminar with the very experienced
trainer Gert Strydom, a nutrition
seminar by the highly respected Rael
Koping and a very interesting
medical seminar by Dr Louwrens
Erasmus.
Of
course there was the fun side with a
trip up one of the seven wonders of
the world - Table mountain. An
exclusive cable car assigned only to
WBF delegates took everyone 1000
metres up to enjoy an incredible
experience.
Delegates went to the Waterfront,
took drives up Chapman’s peak and
all had a wonderful time.
Friday night saw the boxing event
and possibly an early contender for
the WBF fight of the year between
Wassim Chilean and Lybon Ntshani -
an absolute war.
Saturday evening saw the awards
dinner and of course Africa music
took over with Siya Vabaza leading
the chorus.
Sunday saw the departure of most of
the delegates and closed a superb,
exciting and informative convention.
