In a clash of South Africans, Sanele
Msimang won the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) International Light
Welterweight title when he
unanimously outscored Luvuyo Mphuthi
on Saturday night, August 5.
Billed as “No Mercy”, the fight
headlined a card promoted by
Syathaba Boxing Promotions & Sports
at the APN Portuguese Hall in
Durban.
The shorter man, Msimang fought a
clever fight and consistently got
under the jab of Mphuthi, working
well to the body throughout.
Mphuthi had plenty of success of his
own, and never stopped trying to get
the upper hand, but Msimang was just
a little bit busier and on point.
Judges Bulelwa Mthembu, Thokozani
Ncube and Sihle Zungu all scored it
100-90, but, while arguably
accurate, the wide scores doesn't
reflect the competitiveness of the
fight as all rounds were close.
The new WBF International champion
improved his professional record to
16-4 (8). Mphuthi falls to a
misleading 6-4 (5).
