South Africa-based Congolese Jason
Medi was excellent in winning the
vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF)
All Africa Light Heavyweight title
on Wednesday night, March 27, at the
Turffontein Racecourse in
Johannesburg.
In what was supposed to be his
toughest fight to date, Medi
dominated compatriot Jimmy
Mabundjii, also based in South
Africa, from the first round until
Mabundjii retired on his stool
before the start of round six.
Mabundjii, nicknamed “The Beast”, is
a former WBF All Africa Super
Middleweight champion, and known to
be a resilient and game fighter, but
Medi was just too sharp and good for
him.
Medi has now won seven straight
since losing his pro debut in 2022,
and goes to 7-1 (3). Mabundjii, a
pro since 2010, drops to 10-8 (8)
after what was only his second
inside the distance defeat.
The fight was the main event of
“Breakthrough V”, promoted by Manny
Fernandes and his BRD Boxing
Promotions.
