Undefeated Dutchman Willy Kyakonye
will take on Venezuelan Wilmer
Vasquez for the vacant World Boxing
Federation (WBF) world Heavyweight
title on May 17.
The potentially explosive affair
headlines a card in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
Uganda-born Kyakonye, 10-0 (9), is
the current WBF International
champion, having won that title just
over a year
prior to going for world honours.
In Vasquez, 13-3-2 (8), he is facing
his most dangerous opponent to date,
and a man who travels to his
opponents backyard full of
confidence.
Vasquez last boxed in July of 2024,
where he scored a split decision
over 12-0 Mexican Ubaldo Ilagor
Resendiz in Caracas, and he is now
aiming to continue that momentum by
becoming WBF world champion.
Kyakonye has a significant advantage
in punching-power and fighting on
home soil, but Vasquez has by far
faced and defeated the better
opposition and will not be
intimidated by what the home-man
brings.
