Tour of historical monument
Voelklinger Huette.
The third and culminating day of
the World Boxing Federation
Convention in Saarbruecken,
Germany started early with a
cultural program. The delegates
drove of to nearby Voelklingen
for a special guided tour
through “Voelklinger Huette”,
which constitutes the most
popular industrial historical
monument in all of Germany and
is recognized as a world
heritage site.
Afterwards, it was back to
Viktor’s Residenz-Hotel for the
WBF Convention Luncheon & Awards
Ceremony, with the winners of
the WBF Annual Awards 2012 being
handed their plaques by Howard
Goldberg and Jean Marcel Nartz,
WBF President and Vice President
respectively.

Two winners were kept secret at
the start of this year and were
thus surprised about their
nominations. Luxembourg’s Tonio
Tiberi deservedly was honoured
as “Referee of the Year” for his
many outstanding performances in
the ring, while promoters Oliver
Heib and Bernhard Notar of DOG
Eventboxing snatched the
“Presidents Special Award” in
recognition of their support and
loyalty to the World Boxing
Federation. Both of them had
gone to great lengths to ensure
hosting this WBF Convention in
Saarbruecken.
Tonight, the huge WBF
Championship Boxing Night at the
Saarlandhalle, featuring four
(!) World Boxing Federation
title fights, is supposed to be
the climax of the convention
weekend. While delegates receive
VIP treatment, many attending
ring officials will nonetheless
use the opportunity to present
themselves in action in front of
a sold-out audience, as every
bout will feature a different
set of referees and judges.
