On Thursday night, May 1, in
Hamburg, Germany, Dutch-based Syrian
Alaa Al Mahmoud became the new World
Boxing Federation (WBF) world Super
Middleweight champion.
On a show promoted by Boxen im
Norden, the 28-year-old stopped
local man Alexander Pavlov in four
rounds to win the vacant title in
impressive style.
The new world champion improved his
undefeated record to 12-0 (9), while
the much more experienced Pavlov
drops to 22-6 (16).
In the evenings co-feature, WBF
womens world Super Bantamweight
champion Phannarai Netisri made her
fourth successful defense against
gritty Mexican Isis Vargas Perez.
After ten rounds of boxing, all
three judges saw Netisri as the
winner by scores of 97-93 (Irene
Kostenko), 98-92 (Frank Michael
Maass) and 96-94 (Janine Schilling).
Born in Thailand but based in
Germany her entire pro career,
Netisri is now 17-0 (6). Vargas
Perez, a former WBC world
title-challenger, falls to 10-7 (3).
