As we quickly come to the
realization of the dramatic
impact the coronavirus pandemic
is having on our lives, we are
facing a challenge of monumental
proportions.
The uncertainty and the lack of
knowledge of this new deadly
virus is affecting us all in a
scary and unknown manner.
As the number of cases worldwide
continues to increase and expand
at an alarming rate it is up to
us, yes all of us - to stand up
and be counted and do what is
necessary in order to not only
flatten the curve but to try to
knock out this virus which has
literally put a halt on the
world’s proceedings in no
uncertain terms.
Cities have become ghost towns,
businesses have shut their doors
and the economy is in free fall.
Yet what is more terrifying is
that still some people do not
take this virus seriously.
It is time to self isolate, to
encompass social distancing and
to adhere to the strictest of
hygiene measures if we are to
win this arduous battle.
While all sport world wide has
been virtually canceled and/or
postponed and correctly so, with
human lives being our main
priority, it has impacted hugely
on the boxing world and on us at
the World Boxing Federation.
The WBF has unequivocally
endorsed all these cancellations
and postponements, with the
knowledge that, similar to that
in boxing - ‘knock me down and
I’ll keep getting up, stronger
and stronger‘.
The WBF together with the other
sanctioning bodies will do
whatever is needed to ensure the
safety of the participants in
the sport that we love - even if
it means a lengthy layoff with
no boxing.
One must remember the huge
volume of fighters who took time
off and returned successfully to
lift the title.
The WBF will be lifting titles
in the near future, of that you
can be certain.
To all the WBF family, boxers,
trainers, promoters, husband,
wives and children - I urge you
to stay healthy, safe and
indoors.
Self isolation is the only way
to beat our virus opponent, but
it needs a concerted and united
effort.
Unity is strength. We will
defeat our opponent - the
coronavirus, with the help of
everyone world wide.
Keep safe and I hope to see you
all at World Boxing Federation
title fights sooner rather than
later!
Until next time,
keep punching.
