As the world continues to battle
against the Coronavirus, it is
refreshing to see that boxing is
trying its hardest to come back
in the safest possible manner to
ensure that what has happened to
the world economy does not fully
filter down to the sport we
love.
I am not for one second
underestimating the devastation
caused by this dreadful virus,
and of course we have to treat
it with care and respect - after
all it is a virtually unknown
disease and the world continues
to try to develop a vaccine to
combat the virus’s devastation.
I for one, and I would hope that
my sentiments are share by at
least some of the boxing
fraternity, would hope that we
do not allow the virus to
destroy what is left of the
boxing economy around the world.
Lets bring boxing back carefully
following medical requirements
and regulations to the full.
Safety precautions, social
distancing, wearing of masks and
testing are but a few of the new
elements of boxing going
forward. Let’s allow our boxers,
under these strict conditions to
pursue their profession and
enable them to earn a living
doing what they do best.
The good news is that boxing is
returning and returning as
mentioned under completely
different circumstances.
We look forward to our first
fight since the lock-down, which
will take place in Tanzania mid
August, with fights also lined
up for France, Germany,
Gibraltar and, when permitted,
my own South Africa.
It is, however, not a time for
complacency but a time for
careful and considerate behavior
from everyone worldwide. We can,
and will, defeat this enemy
virus if we work together,
consolidate our skills and
knowledge, and act responsibly.
Please take care and stay safe.
Until next time,
keep punching.
